Yobe Desert Stars have bade farewell to the Nigerian Professional Football League following a home loss to Nasarawa United in the last match of the season held this evening in Damaturu.
Nasarawa United’s forward, Ibrahim Sunusi converted a penalty at exactly 12 minutes of the first half following a foul committed by Desert’s defender at the eighteen-yard box.
Again at 40 minutes, Sunusi’s perfect strike saw the visiting team leading by two goals to nothing.
However, Desert’s striker, Adamu Ali changed the scoreline to 1-2 with an astonishing header few minutes to end of the first 45 minutes of the regulation time.
The match ended in favour of Nasarawa United, who were desperately looking for three points in order leave the relegation zone.
It was a sad development for hundreds of football lovers who stormed August 27 stadium, venue of the last encounter to watch the home team, only to be disappointed by the outcome of the match.
In group B of the NPFL Abridgement table for the 2018/2019 Yobe Desert Stars alongside Gombe United, Elkanemi Warriors and Go-Round have been relegated to Nigerian National League.
Similarly, in group A, Bendel Insurance, Kwara United, Niger Tornadoes and Remo Stars also followed suit as they could not make it in the table.
Meanwhile, Enugu Rangers, Lobe Stars, Enyimba, Akwa United, Kano Pillars and Ifeanyi Ubah Fc would slug it out in the super six.
