Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa voted Argentina star Lionel Messi for the Best FIFA Men’s Player Of The Year 2019 crown, while head coach of the team, Gernot Rohr picked Kylian Mbappe.
Musa went for Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah as his second and third choices respectively for the FIFA prestigious award.
Rohr on his part on his part voted Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk in second position and settled for Eden Hazard in third spot.
Every coach and captain of FIFA’s 211-member nations voted, including one journalist from each member nation, with their votes calculated by allocating five points to the first, three points for second and a point for the third selection.
In a ceremony held in Teatro alla Scala on Monday, Messi scooped the prestigious individual prize with 46 points while van Dijk came closest with 38 points and Ronaldo followed with 36 points.
Salah came fourth in the final five shortlist with 26 points and Sadio Mane followed with 23 points.
