"We Won't Play" - Liverpool Coach Jurgen Klopp Reacts On Club World Cup, Carabao Cup Matches Clashing
Liverpool are in the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw this morning but when they will actually play the fixture remains to be seen. The matches involving the last eight will take place on the week commencing December 16. But Liverpool will be competing for the Club World Cup in Doha at the same time after winning the Champions League last season.
And Klopp has sensationally told the organisers of the Carabao Cup the Reds could quit the competition.
He said: “If they can't find the proper date for us and I don't mean Christmas Day 3am - then we can't play the game - our opponentswill progress.
“We will not be the victims of this problem.
“I think a lot of people from the Premier League were watching on TV hoping Arsenal do it. Sorry!”
Liverpool saw off Arsenal in a scintillating match at Anfield on Wednesday evening.
The Reds progressed via a penalty shootout after an incredible 5-5 draw in the 90 minutes.
Klopp’s side took the lead after Shkodran Mustafi scored a howler of an own goal but before they knew it Liverpool were 3-1 down.
Lucas Torreira and a Gabriel Martinelli double put the Gunners in a strong position.
James Milner then converted a penalty to leave the score 3-2 at half-time.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles restored Arsenal’s two-goal cushion in the second half before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted a screamer topeg them back.
Divock Origi followed that up by putting Liverpool back on level terms but Joe Willock scored a beautiful curling effort to make it 5-4.
But Origi stole the headlines with an injury-time equaliser and youngster Curtis Jones converted the winning penalty in the shootout.
