Former England defender, Stuart Pearce, has compared Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, to the Red Devils legend, Eric Cantona.
Fernandes has been impressive for Man United since he joined the Old Trafford club last January from Sporting Lisbon.
The Portuguese international has scored three goals and provided four assists for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side so far this season.
But Pearce believes Fernandes has the leadership qualities of Cantona, who helped United win four Premier League titles within five seasons after joining the club in 1992.
“I was lucky to be there at Fernandes’ first game,” Pearce told talkSPORT.
“He’s got forms of leadership about Cantona, and you can see that.
“He was cajoling other players around him, even in his first game at the club.
“Sometimes you think, “I will ease my way in,” but he had the mentality of, ” Look, I’m out here now, and it’s down to me to influence others around me,” which is fantastic.
“I think Manchester United have needed that. When things haven’t been going well at United, there has been criticism of a lack of leadership, but they’ve brought another good signing through the door, which I think Solskjaer has got brilliantly right.”
