Former Manchester United star, Andrei Kanchelskis has blamed the club for not allowing Michael Carrick to continue in charge of the club until the end of the season.
Carrick was given the caretaker role after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the club’s manager and led the club to a 2-0 win against Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The former midfielder is expected to be in charge when Man United take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday as they prepare to hire an interim boss.
However, Kanchelskis feels Rangnick has not done enough at his current job at the Russian top-flight club to be appointed manager at Old Trafford.
Rangnick is currently the Sporting Director at Lokomotiv Moscow and Kanchelskis thinks his work so far at the club has not been too impressive.
“The impressive reputation he has in Germany has seemingly led the United board to consider his appointment, in many ways if it transpires then it appears a logical appointment – a step for stability,” he told bettingexpert
“Here in Russia, at Lokomotiv Moscow, he has not done a huge amount to change their current situation in his role as director of football – which I’d describe as a little complex, to say the least.
“They need to look at a different approach to have some success.
“We haven’t seen a huge impact in the six months he’s had but he’s not been here a long time in the role.
“It’s hard to make such an impact in that time.
“I did feel Carrick should have stayed in the role until the end of the season, but it seems like that is not to be and hopefully this is the start of a return to form for the team and an upcoming period of stability.”
Heading into the league clash with Chelsea on Sunday, Manchester United are currently 8th in the table, 12 points behind their opponents who will be hoping to extend their lead with a win.
