‘So stupid, ridiculous’ – Harry Redknapp slams Man Utd over Rangnick’s appointment

Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach, Harry Redknapp has hit out at Manchester United over their imminent appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager.

Rangnick is on the verge of becoming Man United’s interim manager until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The German has already reached an agreement with the Premier League giants on a 6-month contract and will then take up a 2-year consultancy role.

Rangnick’s appointment will be officially confirmed in the next 24-48 hours.

Speaking on the development, Redknapp, however, said Man United’s move for Rangnick was ‘stupid,’ ‘ridiculous’ and confusing.

“The fact [Manchester] United have brought in Ralf Rangnick as an interim to replace the interim before they get the man they really want is ridiculous,” Redknapp told The Sun.

“I have never heard anything so stupid in my life, whichever way you look at it.”

He added, “If they wanted Mauricio Pochettino, as we were led to believe, then there were ways and means to make it happen now.

“And if they had to wait for him, they should not have pushed [Michael] Michael aside and put someone above him for a few months. What does that say? We have got no faith in you?”

“The thing is, he [Carrick] knows [Manchester] United inside out.

“He has got a great footballing brain — you don’t play the game how he did unless you understand it.

“If they needed to bring in anyone before a manager was appointed, then get a coach alongside him because they were a man down after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left.

“They should have just gone for someone experienced, but let Michael run the show until then.”
