He was phenomenal, unbelievable – Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen laud Real Madrid star

Manchester United legends, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen have hailed Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois following the Los Blancos’ Champions League final 1-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday night.

Ferdinand hailed Courtois for his phenomenal display against Liverpool, while Owen said the Belgium international was unbelievable against the Premier League giants.

Courtois was at his brilliant best for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in Paris, making a number of superb saves to help his team triumph against Liverpool to win their 14th Champions League.

His teammate, Vinicious, scored the only goal of the match in the second half.

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “With a couple of the saves, it was almost as if you had to look at each other in disbelief and go, ‘wow, how has he done that?’

He looked like a man possessed in that goal. Mo Salah couldn’t do any more, it’s just fantastic goalkeeping from Courtois. He was phenomenal tonight.”

On his part, Owen added: “Two saves spring to mind for me. There was one he flicked onto the post from Mane and another one from Mo Salah.

“The first one is an unbelievable save. He walked past us just now and the size of the man… he’s huge and when he can get down that quick as well… you are one of the world’s best.”
