Transfer: Guardiola tells Joao Cancelo to leave Man City after bust-up

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has told Joao Cancelo to leave the club after a nasty bust-up between the manager and the Portuguese.

Cancelo has won back-to-back Premier League titles and one Carabao Cup trophy with the Etihad landlords and has been a key part of the City squad.

But the 23-year-old fell out of Guardiola’s favour after returning from the World Cup in Qatar, starting just three of 10 matches for the Citizens.

The Daily Mail reports that there has been a huge bust-up between the Portuguese and his boss, Guardiola.

The fallout happened at the club’s training ground, with the defender said to have become a disruptive member of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

The 28-year-old was said to have been furious after he was snubbed in the starting XI for their FA Cup win over Arsenal on Friday.

Cancelo was said to have threatened to leave the Etihad Stadium after reaching ‘breaking point’ with the Spaniard.

Cancelo joined City from Juventus in a £60m deal in 2019 and he went on to play a total of 154 games for the club, registering nine goals and 22 assists.

His current deal expires in 2027 after he signed an extension around a year ago.
