Fabio Grosso has been sacked by Ligue 1 strugglers Lyon after less than three months in charge.
The 46-year-old Italian - who won the World Cup in 2006 - leaves the seven-time French champions bottom of the table.
Grosso won one of his seven matches in charge after replacing Laurent Blanc in September.
Academy coach Pierre Sage has been appointed as Lyon's new boss on a temporary basis.
"Olympique Lyonnais would like to thank Fabio Grosso and his assistants for their dedication and professionalism since taking over," the club said.
Grosso - who played for Lyon between 2007 and 2009 - suffered facial injuries in an attack on the Lyon team bus in Marseille in October, with the match postponed by officials.
Grosso joined Lyon after leading Frosinone to promotion to Serie A last season.
