Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said Chelsea’s potential decision to sell Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window highlights the ‘mess’ the club’s new owners have created.
Carragher also insisted that Gallagher has been Chelsea’s best player this season, along with Cole Palmer.
The former England defender said this while reacting to reports on Saturday that Chelsea have already entered into negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential £50 million deal for Gallagher.
Chelsea need to balance the books after their unprecedented spending spree under their new owners.
This means selling a homegrown player would represent pure profit on their balance sheet.
Reacting, Carragher wrote on X: “Gallagher has been Chelsea’s best player this season along with Cole Palmer, this just shows what a mess the new ownership have made at the club. Selling an academy player because it helps with FFP.”
