Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Noni Madueke was not on penalty duty during their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
Michael Olise’s sublime volley had cancelled out Mykhailo Mudryk’s opener at Stamford Bridge.
With two minutes of regulation time left, the Blues were awarded a penalty kick following a VAR review.
Pochettino claims captain, Conor Gallagher was supposed to take it, but left it to Madueke, who coolly converted the winner.
In the decision for Noni Madueke to take the penalty in place of suspended duo Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer, Pochettino said: “It was Conor [Gallagher] and I said to him ‘it’s you but if you’re not confident enough give it Noni’.
“I am so glad and so happy. He came from the bench and showed this hunger and confidence.”
