Morocco coach, Walid Regragui, has taken full responsibility for the team’s exit at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Regragui watched as Morocco crashed out in the last-16 after losing 2-0 to South Africa on Tuesday night.
Goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena gave South Africa the victory over the Atlas Lions as Manchester United’s Sofyan Amrabat was sent-off during the encounter.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi also missed a penalty for Morocco during the match.
“We could have maybe settled the game in the first half but, at this level, you get immediately punished for any chance you waste,” Regragui told beIN Sports.
“The penalty hurt us a lot, and surely we didn’t do everything that is required but I take full responsibility,” Regragui added.
“We will learn from this unexpected stumble. This is a disappointment for our fans who supported us a lot.”
