Millwall sign Wintle and Scanlon on loan

Millwall have signed midfielder Ryan Wintle on a season-long loan from Cardiff City.

The 27-year-old has made 117 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring five goals.

The Lions have also signed 19-year-old left-back Calum Scanlon from Liverpool on loan for the season, taking their number of summer signings to nine.

"We're really pleased to welcome Ryan to the club," Steve Gallen, the Lions' director of football, told the club's website.

"His qualities and leadership both on and off the pitch only strengthens our midfield.

"He likes to get on the ball and make things happen, and having made over 100 appearances for Cardiff City - as well as at Crewe Alexandra - Ryan arrives with great experience and knows what it takes to compete at this level."

Wintle began his career at Crewe, scoring 11 goals in 186 games before moving to Cardiff in 2021.

He spent his first six months at the Welsh club on loan at Blackpool, playing 18 times in the Championship.

Scanlon joined Liverpool from Birmingham City in 2021 but is yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds.

"He is quick, dynamic and loves getting forward and will provide good competition in the defensive area," Gallen said.

Millwall, who are without a win in the league, face Sheffield Wednesday at The Den on Saturday.
