Ronaldo set to sign new Al Nassr deal, cement status as highest-paid footballer

Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly on the verge of signing a new deal with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, worth an astounding €3.8 million per week.

Ronaldo, who rejoined Manchester United in 2021, enjoyed a prolific first season, scoring 24 goals.

However, his second stint at the club was marred by tension, particularly with manager Erik ten Hag.

The situation came to a head in November 2022 when Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan saw him publicly criticise the club, its ownership, and his manager.

Following the fallout, Ronaldo and Manchester United mutually agreed to part ways. Shortly after, the Portuguese legend inked a lucrative deal with Al Nassr, becoming one of the highest-paid players in the world.

Now, reports from Saudi media outlet Al Khabar (via AS) suggest that the 39-year-old forward, who turns 40 in February, is set to extend his contract with Al Nassr by one more season.

The new deal is said to be worth €200 million, with Ronaldo earning an eye-watering €3.8 million weekly.

His earnings include €200 million in base salary and an additional €60 million from image rights, ensuring he remains the highest-paid footballer globally.

Ronaldo’s performances since joining Al Nassr have been nothing short of remarkable. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has netted 75 goals in 84 appearances, bringing his career tally to an extraordinary 917 goals. The extension could bring him tantalizingly close to his goal of reaching 1,000 career strikes.

The deal, which will reportedly run until June 2026, aligns perfectly with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament that could mark Ronaldo’s final bow on the international stage.
