England's Kirby and Kelly to miss first Belgium match

Fran Kirby and Chloe Kelly will miss England's home game against Belgium in the Women's Nations League with minor injuries.

The in-form pair will be a loss to Sarina Wiegman's squad, who are already without several key players as they build-up to Euro 2025.

The Lionesses host Belgium at Ashton Gate in Bristol on Friday (20:00 BST kick-off), before travelling to Leuven for the return fixture on Tuesday (19:30 BST).

Kirby, 31, took part in training on Thursday, but Kelly, 27, was not involved after both picked up "little niggles". They could be fit for the second match of the double-header.

"We are still working towards Tuesday's game," England manager Wiegman said.

"It's really disappointing for them because they are in a very good place. It's disappointing for the team too.

"But as always, we prepare for the next steps and think about scenarios of who is ready to play and is ready to come in."

Attacking midfielder Kirby has impressed since joining Brighton in the summer, scoring five goals and assisting two in 13 Women's Super League appearances.

She missed February's matches against Portugal and Spain due to injury but was recalled to the squad for this double-header with Belgium.

Forward Kelly has picked up regular minutes since her dramatic deadline-day loan move from Manchester City to Arsenal and recorded two assists as Arsenal booked their place in the Women's Champions League semi-finals last week.
